A Member may retire from the Plan the first day of any month following their 55th birthday, provided they are entitled to a vested benefit.
Members considering retirement should obtain from the administrative agent the Request by Member or Former Member for Retirement Information form. This form, along with satisfactory proof of age of the Member and Spouse, Pension Plan Payment Authorization form if applicable, (see list below for acceptable documents) should be submitted to a union representative for processing.
Document acceptable as proof of age are as follows:
- Birth certificate issued by government authority.
- Baptismal certificate or church record, that shows date of birth, certified by custodian of such church.
- Hospital record of birth, that shows date of birth, certified by custodian of such record.
- Statement of physician or midwife in attendance at birth, stating date of birth as shown in their records.
- Citizenship papers, immigration papers, military record or passport, that shows date of birth.
- Life insurance policy issued at least five years ago, that shows date of birth.
- Signed notarized statements from responsible person(s) having knowledge of date of birth.
Upon receipt of all documents, a Notice of Retirement and Election of Option package will be provided. This will illustrate the estimated amount of pension that will be available under all the various optional forms of payment. Should you decide to retire, you will need to complete the forms and return them to the administrative agent to commence your pension payments.
