Medical Second Opinion

Description of Benefits

If you are an Active Member, the Medical Second Opinion benefits in this section apply to you and your eligible Dependents. These benefits cease in accordance with the “Termination of Member Coverage” provision or upon attainment of age seventy, whichever is earlier.

As the practice of medicine becomes more highly specialized, it can be difficult for any one physician to be aware of all of the latest information relating to the diagnosis and treatment of serious or complex diseases.

The Medical Second Opinion benefits provides second opinion consultation services if you are diagnosed with a serious illness.  Your initial call to HumanaCare will be answered by a Registered Nurse who will gather your medical information. Medical specialists will then review this information and generate a report, confirming or modifying your physician's diagnosis and suggesting the best treatment options.

The Medical Second Opinion benefits include:

  • Collection of medical records
  • Clinical information review
  • Written report within 5-7 business days of receipt of medical information (24-hour rush cases available where required)
  • Support with understanding and implementing the Medical Second Opinion recommendations
  • Nurse led healthcare system navigation
  • Access to an online health and wellness portal including health content and health risk assessment with unique client specific login
  • Telephone or video consultation, if needed, between your physician and the consulting physician from the HumanaCare network
