Effective April 1, 2019, OHIP+ will no longer provide drug coverage for individuals under the age of 25 who have access to private insurance. Therefore, prescription drug claims for children and youth 24 years of age and younger with private plan coverage will have to be submitted directly to their private plan. Click here for details!

In addition to the federal programs, some provinces also provide additional retirement income that is means based. In the case of Ontario, there is the Guaranteed Annual Income System (GAINS) which provides for a guaranteed minimum income for Ontario seniors. The payments are based on your income or combined income as a married or common-law couple. It is directly linked to the amount of your federal GIS monthly payments. They range from a minimum of $2.50 to a maximum of $83.00 per month
